Starting with CrossFit can be both exciting and challenging! At Dom City, every newcomer kicks off their journey with a complimentary trial class. This introductory session offers a firsthand experience of our dynamic classes. You’ll have the chance to meet our coach, interact with fellow members, and dive into a typical CrossFit workout. Throughout the session, our coach will be there to guide you through each step, ensuring your comfort and safety. With over 30 new members joining us each month, many of whom are completely new to CrossFit, our coach dedicates ample time to explain and demonstrate proper technique for each programmed movement, offering personalized guidance along the way.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you begin your CrossFit journey:
- Research CrossFit: Before diving in, familiarize yourself with what CrossFit is all about. You can read about its principles, methodologies, and the types of workouts involved. There are a few cool documentaries of the world championships, the CrossFit Games.
- Find a CrossFit Gym (Box): Look for a reputable CrossFit gym (referred to as a “box” in CrossFit jargon) in your area. You can try out one or multiple CrossFit boxes to see what box fits you needs. A lot of members choose Dom City based on location and price, but stay with us because of our skilled coaches and vibe.
- Attend a free trial: Many CrossFit boxes offer a free session or fundamentals classes designed for beginners.
- Assess Your Fitness Level: Be honest with yourself about your current fitness level. CrossFit workouts can be intense, so it’s essential to start at a level that matches your abilities. Our coaches will guide in movements scaling and choosing the right weight. Our coaches are skilled to hold you back or support you to go heavier if your technique allows is.
- Set Realistic Goals: Determine what you want to achieve with CrossFit, whether it’s improving overall fitness, building strength, losing weight, or competing in CrossFit events. Setting clear, achievable goals and logging your results in the Dom City app will help keep you motivated.
- Commit to Consistency: Consistency is key in CrossFit. Aim to attend classes regularly, beginners ideally start with 2 times per week, to see progress and improvements in your fitness level. A large group upgrades their membership after 3-6 months to 3 times per week.
- Listen to Your Body: CrossFit workouts can be demanding, so pay attention to your body’s signals. If you’re feeling excessively fatigued or experiencing pain, don’t hesitate to let the coach know, so we can help you scale!
- Focus on Technique: Proper technique is crucial in CrossFit to prevent injuries and maximize results. Listen to our coaches’ instructions carefully and prioritize mastering the correct form for each movement.
