Frequently asked questions from potential members

CrossFit is a combination of exercise and nutrition that has been proven to increase fitness and health for people of all ages and abilities. CrossFit is founded on the first scientifically rigorous definition of fitness: The program produces observable results that can be measured and replicated. You can do CrossFit with a credentialed CrossFit trainer or in a supportive, motivating community at a licensed CrossFit affiliate.

No. CrossFit is the program that will get you in shape. No matter what your current fitness level is, you can always start CrossFit. As you become fitter and faster, you can alter workouts so that they will become even more challenging! Every workout is designed to help you succeed, improve fitness and move you toward your goals.

CrossFit can be a beneficial fitness option due to its diverse workouts, community support, and emphasis on functional movements. Its high-intensity approach can improve cardiovascular health and overall fitness. However, potential drawbacks include a higher risk of injury, a one-size-fits-all approach, and a lack of structured periodization. It’s important to consult a healthcare professional before starting, learn and maintain proper form to minimize injury risks, and listen to your body’s cues. The competitive atmosphere in CrossFit may not suit everyone. Finding a balance that aligns with individual goals, ensures safety, and allows for long-term participation is crucial. If enjoyed and approached mindfully, CrossFit can be a healthy way to achieve fitness goals for many individuals.

Yes. CrossFit training is very safe. We believe that sitting on your couch a lot is actually more dangerous. At Dom City, certified trainers provide precise instructions and individual coaching to help members move safely and efficiently. Our coaches have the skill to help every member. We have a scaling option for all levels and no injury should hold you back from training completely. Moving around is in a lot of cases the way to being healthy again.

It depends on your goals. For beginners, we advice to start with 2 times per week. Your body needs to get used to the movements and intensity first. Also it takes time (about 3 months) to build a new habit. When you want to master all the CrossFit movements, most members upgrade their membership to at least 3 times per week. All the memberships at Dom City are based on a 4-week contract, so you can easily upgrade or downgrade.

Yes, absolutely. We want all our members to join our classes even when they have an injury. Our coaches always have a safe option for you to scale back to. We have extra safety equipement for members with an injury, like a safety bar so you can squat with a wrist/arm injury. If you can make it to the box, we can come up with a challenging, but safe training.

Yes, CrossFit can be an effective way to lose weight. The high-intensity workouts associated with CrossFit can lead to increased calorie burn, improved metabolic rate, and fat loss. CrossFit incorporates a combination of cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and functional movements, which can contribute to overall calorie expenditure and promote weight loss.

Yes. Everyone can do CrossFit regardless of age, injuries and current fitness levels. The program is modified for each person to help him or her safely become healthier and fitter. Give it a try with our free trial class to see for yourself.

Frequently asked questions from Dom City members

Please email us at info@crossfitdomcity.com to upgrade your membership, and we will make the change immediately. For downgrades, please notify us at least 7 days before your 4-week term ends. The change will take effect in the next term.

We’re sad to see you go! To cancel your membership, please email us at info@crossfitdomcity.com. We will invoice you for one additional 4-week term after your current term ends, so the exact cancellation period may vary.

Yes, you can pause your membership for up to 4 weeks per year. These weeks don’t have to be consecutive and can be divided into multiple short breaks. To pause your membership, email us at info@crossfitdomcity.com at least 7 days before the end of your current 4-week term.

You will still pay the full amount for your current term, but your next invoice will be postponed by the number of days you paused.

We have multiple options depending on your situation:

  1. Injury to a body part (e.g., knee, shoulder, lower back): You can still join our classes. Our coaches are experienced in scaling and reprogramming workouts based on specific injuries. We truly believe that adjusted training can help you recover faster.
  2. Overall discomfort or mental health concerns: Please contact us, and we’ll work together to find a solution. Scaling down your membership to Functional or Open Gym only might be beneficial.
  3. Injury preventing all training: If you have an injury that completely stops you from training, we can always pause your membership.

While it’s common to take off a shirt during a workout at a CrossFit box, we implemented a no shirts off policy years ago to ensure everyone feels comfortable. When multiple members expressed discomfort with shirtless workouts, we realized the solution was straightforward. At CrossFit Dom City, inclusivity is a core value, and we pride ourselves on creating an environment where everyone can be themselves. Our no shirts off policy supports this goal. Besides promoting comfort, hygiene is also a key factor in our policy. Sweating all over the floor and equipment can be unsanitary. Bringing an extra clean shirt for after the workout is a good idea, especially if you sweat a lot and need to bike home. This helps maintain a clean and pleasant environment for everyone.

Men are required to wear t-shirts or tank tops and women must wear shirts or tank tops with a sports bra underneath, ensuring two layers at all times.

No problem! This change is the same when you upgrade/downgrade a membership. Please email us at info@crossfitdomcity.com to change your membership. Please notify us at least 7 days before your 4-week term ends. The change will take effect in the next term.

Our goal is for our coaches to post the programming in the Dom City app for the coming week on Sunday afternoon. However, since life can be unpredictable, it might occasionally be posted a bit later.

We have two different late cancel windows:

  • Morning classes (including open gym slots): 12-hour window. You need to sign out the evening before if you plan to cancel.
  • Afternoon/evening classes: 2-hour window.

If you cancel within these windows, you will lose a credit and cannot switch to another class within the window. Please make sure to cancel or reschedule on time to avoid inconvenience to your coach.
